40 years ago today, the New York Cosmos hosted the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in a NASL playoff game. The Cosmos won 8-3 but that is not the important thing. 77,691 people showed up to watch it. All these years later, no American club match has topped that attendance.
Two of that game’s participants joined me to discuss the magic afternoon: Ray Hudson, the Strikers rookie and Shep Messing, the Cosmos veteran goalkeeper. What stories they told and some of them have never been told before.
Kiki Ebsen was such a wonderful guest. Talented and funny and so much more. 48 years ago today, Joni Mitchell missed attending Woodstock, but she wrote a song about it. Kiki sings Joni Mitchell songs solo and with her Joni Mitchell Project band. And then go with “She also sings Symphony Pops, she performs her own songs, created a tribute show including the music of her father’s 7-decade career, and a Joni Mitchell Project tribute band and sings straight-ahead jazz in solo dates. She’s releasing “Cool Songs, Vol. 2: The Music of Joni Mitchell” on 8/27. Catch her Joni Mitchell Project concerts on 8/19 in Laguna Beach, CA, or 9/17 in Westlake Village, CA.
